Art Therapy – Working with Addictions

Addictions - Letting GoThe use of art therapy in work with addictions has been well documented over the past twenty years. The theory and approaches that have emerged have placed the art process central to the process of change, self-reflection and recovery.

We will use the day to draw together the theoretical strands and reflect on clinical practice through case examples from the field. We will develop an understanding of the psychological models that have been developed in working with addictions and how art therapy has integrated these to form a compelling arts-based approach.

Both facilitators have years of experience to draw on and will use case materials to illustrate the art-based narratives which emerge from the clinical work.

Gary Nash, MA, has over twenty years of experience working in adult mental health services, dual diagnosis and homelessness in West London. He is a BAAT registered Supervisor and Registered private practitioner with over 10 years experience.

Yafit Nahari is an Art Psychotherapist working with children and adults both in a charity and in private practice. She facilitated art therapy groups for adults in recovery from addictions and dual diagnosis. Yafit is a Baat registered private practitioner and Baat registered supervisor.
