During this arts & theory based workshop we will examine the centrality of the triangular relationship and how the transference is expressed visually and non-verbally in art psychotherapy. We will look at the underpinning theories that aim to support the therapist to engage with and articulate the transferencial material both visual and non-verbal, as experienced in the countertransference and through the image.
We will draw on key art therapy texts as well as psychoanalytic and object relations theory, particularly Ogden’s definition of the ‘analytic third’. We will consider how the therapists own visual response piece can be used to access and amplify counter-transference material.
