Art therapists have been working outdoors in nature, working therapeutically and with environmental issues for several years (Siddons Heginworth, 2008; Rust 2011; Jones, 2012). This workshop takes us deeper into our personal relationship with and within nature.
Based on the work of Mary Jayne Rust we will spend the day out of doors in Highgate Woods looking at our developmental relationship with nature, how we experienced the holding, listening and containing qualities of the natural world – and how this may have been experienced as healing at points in our lives. We will consider how this very personal relationship can provide the starting point for working therapeutically out of doors.
