During this arts & theory based workshop we will focus on the art object and therapeutic space from an object relations perspective. We will critically consider the therapeutic third, the space, and the image in relation to transitional phenomena and how holding and allowing form the basis of the art psychotherapeutic relationship.
This workshop will look at the theoretical links from Freud and his grandson’s cotton reel, to ‘Object Relations’ as defined by W.D. Winnicott (1953, 1971) and the importance of transitional space and creativity. We will take a fresh look at the theories of Winnicott in the context of symbol formation and its significance for art therapy.
