23 Nov 2025 | Working with Charcoal: The Alchemy of Water and Fire | 1-Day Workshop | In-Person
Charcoal is made from sticks or lumps of wood from the willow tree, which are put into kettles, placed in a fire and slowly “cooked” until they are useable for medicine, teeth whitening, lighting fires or drawing etc. Willow trees naturally grow along watercourses. Water and fire (the sun) are their sources of life as they are ours.
can convey how we feel, but deep within us, there are moods, tones and sound. Charcoal is soft, quietening and calming. It is a gentle medium, which can be used for self-soothing, self-regulation and recalibration. It is a forgiving substance, which can be easily worked and erased and allows us to explore the realms of tone and nuance.
