07 & 8 Nov 2026 | Grieving while Working with Loss | In-person workshop
When we return to work after a personal loss it does not mean we are not grieving. We are also individuals on our own human journey.
It can take a long time to resolve the impact of tragic events in our lives and yet, we often have to continue to work with our clients’ losses while we are carrying deep personal sorrow. Inevitably there will be times when personal experience impacts the focus, energy and enthusiasm we have for our work. This may become overwhelming and can lead to a sense of professional paralysis, exhaustion and inner crisis.
In this meditative weekend retreat, we will allow time to reflect on what happens to us when we experience grief in our personal lives whilst encountering aspects of loss in the work we do with our clients. The course is designed for those who wish to reflect on the experience of carrying others when we really needed to be carried ourselves, and the residue of our own feelings.
The workshop is offered as a contemplative space for digestion and reflection for people who work in roles where they have to be strong for others, and have experienced grieving and trying to work at the same time. You may be a social worker, foster parent, family carer, therapist, nurse, doctor, teacher, support worker, police officer etc.
Aims and Objectives of the workshop:
We will review theories related to grief and trauma and consider how this applies to the topic, however as the weekend is a retreat, focus will be on our own processes.
By the end of the weekend, participants will begin to establish and/or fortify already existing mechanisms for inner protection & recognize other parts of self which can be accessed for future work.
The retreat will include Art making, guided meditation, reflective writing, sharing and ceremony.
