During this arts & theory based workshop we will consider the visual and imaginative processes that generate signs, symbols, metaphor and motif for ourselves as art therapists and for the clients we work with – drawing on clinical examples as well as personal, visual material.

We will look at the theoretical context with reference to Peirce’s ideas of signs and their significance;  Freud’s ‘Interpretation of Dreams’ and Jung’s ‘Man and his Symbols’ as we examine how visual and symbolic narratives have been considered in the art therapy literature.

Facilitator/s:
James D. West, RATh, is an Art Psychotherapist working in the NHS, Social Services and is a Baat registered Private Practitioner and supervisor.

Gary Nash, RATh, has over twenty years art therapy experience working in adult mental health. He is a Baat registered Supervisor and Registered private practitioner.
